At
the heart of a Felt F5 is a important frameset. The frame tips a beam during good underneath a kilo symbol and has an impressively firm front finish interjection to a 1-1/4 to 1-1/2in slim conduct tube, corroborated by a vast connection with a tip and down tubes.

The relating fork, meanwhile, is 100 percent carbon, including a dropouts and even a climax race, that keeps weight next 350g – impressively light on any bike, whatever a price. They’re a truly meritorious multiple and inevitably, to strike a penetrating sell cost there have been compromises elsewhere.

The
wheelset, for example, combines Mavic CXP22 rims with Felt’s possess hubset, immaculate steel spokes and mid-level Vittoria Zaffiro tyres. This is all usable
and comparatively audacious stuff. That said, it does rather lifeless a float of what’s
a smashing frameset.

We
love a approach a Felt handles; it’s fast and positive with a totalled rigidity
and decent comfort levels. But when we get into a climb, a overriding
feeling is that a pithy wheels and indolent tyres are holding behind a frame
that unequivocally deserves much, most better.

It’s
the same story with a drivetrain. While Shimano 105 is as good as anything else during this cost there’s no BB30 bottom joint option, so Felt have opted for an FSA Gossamer chainset that adds a small weight. Shifting is still spot-on though, and a chainrings are giveaway of flex.

We
appreciate Felt wise a peculiarity CO seatpost and a decent stem. The
bars, while easily shaped, are flattering slim and utterly stiff. On longer rides we
found this a small uncomfortable, though those with smaller hands might satisfactory better.

Despite
the downsides we’d still cruise a F5 on a selling list. The framework is
one of a best around, generally during this price, and with a few good judged
upgrades serve down a line you’ll finish adult with a really light, gentle and
stable-handling highway bike that’s good to competition on and you’ll suffer roving for years to
come.

This bike was tested as partial of Cycling Plus magazine’s 2012 Bike Of The Year underline – review a full formula in emanate 260, on sale Friday 2 March.
