Tacx’s Sirius trainer isn’t for wrestle maniacs but gives an impressively natural, mobile feel combined with useful decimal resistance. With a pre-assembled frame, square-ended quick-release skewer and big quick-clamping paddle, it’s quick to set up.

The narrow-fronted cantilevered frame flexes and can stumble sideways if you chuck the bike around too much, but calm it down slightly and the bounce gives a surprisingly natural ride feel that smoothes out your pedal stroke in most situations.

The urethane roller is reasonably smooth and quiet, and the chunky 2kg flywheel reduces choppiness without causing wheel slip. The 10-point lever mounts on the handlebars and gives smoothly graduated resistance steps for subtle training tweaking.
